WELCOME to the world of the endurance Morab!!

Come discover the amazing endurance Morab. For over a hundred years, Morabs have historically been known to be tough to beat on the trails, but the general public was not aware of them as exceptional endurance horses until the last few decades. As more and more Morabs are coming to the fore in endurance rides/drives all over the world, serious riders are beginning to turn to the Morab as their next breed of choice for a winning endurance horse. Some are successfully using their Morabs for endurance, competitive trail *and* distance driving, all with the same horse! Many see them as the breed that can give the Arabian a run for the money...

PICTURED AT RIGHT - BREAKING NEWS!

WHAT A WAY TO START THE NEW YEAR! A NEW RECORD HOLDING MORAB! NEWS FROM JANUARY 2007: Les Carr's 19 year old endurance Morab gelding, PR Tulip, has now taken the number one spot in the all time high AERC mileage! A huge accomplishment that has taken YEARS! Another record now held by a MORAB! Story will be on the website soon!

JULY 2007 - WST/TEVIS CUP ENDURANCE RIDE IS HISTORY! Only one Morab was in the field this year, RED SANS LEGEND +BA, and his well known owner/rider, Roger Yohe. We excitedly watched them come into position for a Top Ten finish by mile 75, only to see them tragically fall off a cliff in a freak accident. We are glad to report that they both are going to be ok, and we won't be surprised to see them at the starting line in 2008. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that a Morab has been involved in an accident/incident in the history of the Tevis Cup ride.

NOV. 2006 - LOST ENDURANCE MORAB FOUND! YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED WE HAD A PICTURE OF AN OLDER MORAB MARE WITH HER RIDER ON THIS WEBSITE THAT WE WERE ASKING FOLKS TO HELP US ID THEM - THE OWNER FOUND US THIS WEEK, AND NOW WE KNOW WHO THEY ARE! SEE THE MORAB PARADE CONTINUED PAGE FOR MORE INFORMATION AND A PICTURE.

ENDURANCE MORABS HAVE BEEN AROUND A WHILE...

William Randolph Hearst is credited in the 1930's for coining the name Morab when he was breeding them for ranch/cow horses at San Simeon. But the Morabs have been around for much longer than that, and it didn't take long for them to be found on the endurance trails. On the Legends page you will find the story of Pinto, probably the first Morab to demonstrate his stamina and grit in a 20,000+ mile ride from 1912 to 1915 (that's almost 7,000 miles a year!). This was before there were organized endurance rides, but soon after we find our first Morab in an organized ride.

THE FIRST MORAB ENDURANCE HORSE

Her name was CYCLONE SAL, and the year was 1939. Sal easily finished a Vermont 100 mile endurance ride in 3rd place with Ruth Dickson riding her. The ride ended at the grounds where the first Eastern Morgan show was being held. Mant Horton,  who remembered seeing Sal there, said "She was one of the most beautiful mares you ever saw. She was sired by an Arabian and out of a Morgan mare." Ruth's family rode from Weston to Vermont every fall, a distance of about 100 miles, and Sal never failed them.

Sal is the earliest documented endurance Morab in an organized ride that we have found. She was registered as a Morgan (as was also her one foal) as this was in the days of Rule 2 before the Morgan herdbook was closed in 1948. Along with several of William Randolph Hearst's ranch bred Morabs, Sal is one of scores of good Morabs who were included in the Morgan registry as registered Morgans.

August 2006: New story added to My Morab Story page! Check it out!
